Paranoia

Paranoia
Betsy McKenzie

Little riffles of fear
Flutter through my mind;
I don’t like to leave a footprint.
I would rather not be noticed.
This is how to lose one’s trail
For scent hounds: run up a stream
Jump out onto an overhanging branch.
Travel as far as possible in the trees.
I always try to catalog
All the exits, doors and windows –
What is possible to use.
Watching, choose the seat
With the best view and exit options.
But stealthy, calm, especially
With those who might be watching.
