Laughter

Laughter
Betsy McKenzie

I advance against the darkness,
A tiny, fading wisp of light
In a sea of blackness.
When, nearly swallowed,
At the last minute,
I giggle.
A bubble of laughter,
Like a swell of sunshine
Bursting into the vasty dark.
Gales of laughter,
Shaking my sides,
Push back the blackness.
